A Year In The Life of a Cub Leader
What a year it has turned out to be. Who ever thought we would end up with moving scouting to online zooms.
But we did it. We kept adjusting the programme to suit the situation and there has been a massive variety of activities taking place online. You should be super proud of what you have achieved. It’s been great to see so many badges and Chief Scout Silver awards still being earned during this unusual scouting year. The Cubs have shown so much resilience and determination to keep on going and achieving.
Some of my favourite activities have been armpit fudge. Sounds horrible but it was great fun, very gooey but taste yummy and sweet. I’ve seen some great science experiments from skittles patterns to exploding volcanoes causing the house to smell of vinegar for hours.
It’s not a cub evening without a game to get things going. One of my favourites has been a scavenger hunt. Seeing the Cubs going crazy running off to find items has been very funny and even seeing families joining in trying to find the items.
The great INdoors Weekender: What a weekend this was. Had so much fun and saw lots of great dens built by the Cubs. A weekend full of many activities all done from the comfort of home. I even built my own indoor den. It was great to take part in an unusual event full of lots of variety and fun.
District fun day: wow it was great to see so many groups represented and kids taking part. So much interesting information from Space facts to Alpacas. Then the day finished off with families all joining in the crazy musical bingo which gave a light relief of fun and games to many people. I certainly enjoyed the dancing and singing along.
I’ve seen some great versions of the solar system done by cubs for their astronomer badge. Made using various different things from lego to recycling materials. Super impressed with the time and effort these cubs put into them.
Lots to look forward to starting with 5 a side football in May, Ready steady cook in June for all those Chefs and also a badge day in June offering a chance for cubs to earn some more badges. Looking forward to welcoming the district cub section back together and lots of fun activities.
